Our History

Crane, Simon, Clar & Goodman has served business and individual clients in Chicagoland and throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and elsewhere in the United States since 1969. The firm is comprised of three partners and two of-counsel attorneys, and concentrates its practice in the areas of bankruptcy, reorganization, restructuring, insolvency, and business/commercial litigation.

The firm's attorneys collectively offer clients over two hundred years of experience in our practice areas, most notably in the areas of bankruptcy, reorganization, restructuring, debt resolution, and business and commercial litigation. Our attorneys include a current Chapter 7 trustee (an appointee of the United States Trustee's Office for the Northern District of Illinois) and several frequent writers and lecturers on bankruptcy, reorganization and related topics.

Our Approach

Although the firm is well-respected for its bankruptcy practice and has extensive experience in all aspects of bankruptcy law, we view our role more expansively. We consider ourselves financial problem-solvers for our clients. Bankruptcy is sometimes the best, and may be the only, debt resolution option in many circumstances. However, we are committed to exploring with our clients all available restructuring, refinancing and liquidation options for addressing their financial concerns. These may include workouts, negotiations, assignments for the benefit of creditors and litigation.

While we serve individual debtors, business debtors of all sizes, secured and unsecured creditors, estate representatives and creditors' committees, much of our work comes from small to midsize business debtors. The circumstances of those companies typically demand a greater depth and breadth of experience than most small firms can offer, but for which the fees of a large law firm would be prohibitive. Our decades of experience allow us to offer these businesses the skill and legal knowledge they require; our smaller size, efficiency and extensive experience allow us to provide personalized solutions in a cost-effective manner.
